2020 Experience of a History Major.

Hesperia, California

As a history major at the University of California, Santa Barbara, I know the historical significance of this year in the grand scheme of things. I honestly think it’s gonna be as influential as 1968 in terms of how the country is changing for better or worse. I was a freshman at UCSB when the pandemic hit and I was forced to move out of dorm and head home, not knowing how long it will be until I can return to campus. As I am in my room writing this, I think about the good times I had at college and to be grateful for the little things. I am grateful that my family is still together and safe. This year brought a lot of heavy topics besides just the pandemic. I was in the safety of my home as people protested against police brutality and I was at home celebrating the victory of Joe Biden, hoping this was a step forward in our countries history rather than a step backwards.
