A Family Reunion During the Coronavirus Pandemic
Like everyone else around the world, the Wilson Family greeted January 2020 with all the hopes for a happy and productive New Year. During this year, the Wilson Family anticipated bringing the bi-annual family reunion 'Back Home' to California's historic Mooney Grove Park, the location where our ancestors had regularly gathered in celebration for many years. However, by February, the country was on high alert for the pandemic and health concern called COVID-19. Family elders began addressing the challenge ahead by informing family members that plans should change from face-to-face contact.
Dear Family,
Everyone is feeling the brunt of Coronavirus. Social distancing is hard, and I'm just as bummed out as you are about self-isolating. However, I'm also worried about my health, your health, and the health of those we might come into contact with. Our older generations lived through the 1918 influenza epidemic, the Depression, the World Wars, and experienced the polio epidemic in the 1940's and 1950's. They certainly learned there is more to life than their personal happiness -- just as young people are learning now. Let's be mindful that personal sacrifice is necessary for the greater good. I look forward to celebrating with you at the next Wilson Reunion. Until then, enjoy a trivia booklet that serves as a keepsake as we continue to shine light on our great ancestry.
