Finally found a way to express my creativity

20852

The beginning of the pandemic was a dark time for me. I am a social person who enjoys getting together with family and friends. I didn't know how I would survive without anything to look forward to - no dinners out, no movies, no concerts, no having friends over, no taking the metro to the office, no going to the office. How was I going to fill my time? I needed something to keep my mind off of all the sadness in the world. One evening I was texting with a friend and we were both saying that we needed a hobby. Options were somewhat limited since we were confined to our homes. I thought about art, but I have no artistic ability - I can't draw, paint, sculpt, nothing . The next day, I was scrolling through Facebook and saw an ad in my feed for a paper quilling kit. I never heard of quilling, but it looked fascinating to me, so I headed to Amazon and purchased a beginners kit. My kit arrived, as well as a book that I ordered, and I fell in love. I finally discovered a way to express the creativity I knew existed in me! Every day, I woke up and looked forward to evening, where I would quill for hours, sometimes until the wee hours of the morning. It's a bit dramatic to say that quilling saved me during the pandemic, but it's true. It gave me something to look forward to when there wasn't anything else. It made me use my brain in ways I hadn't before. And it gave me a confidence I had never felt. I can't say that I am an artist, but at least I have a hobby that I enjoy.
