Washington, DC
The pandemic gutted the live entertainment industry overnight -- tour dates cancelled, venues shuttered, paychecks vanished. But the DC comedy scene adapted. That meant organizing free, socially-distanced comedy shows in comedians' own backyards. Neighbors watched from balconies, local police checked in, masks hid smiles. But for 90 minutes in a busted backyard in Columbia Heights, a community laughed in the middle of a pandemic.
